The New Yorker Cartoon

Literal: How many people are in the cartoon? There are 4 total people in the cartoon.

Inferential: Why would having unfunny actors and director make the script funny? I think because if the hole script, cast and director were

Evaluative: What makes a script funny? There’s lots of different humor that can make a script funny it just depends on the audience.

Appreciative: What was the author trying to explain with having unfunny actors and director?

Essential Question:

Why is the Cartoon supposed to be funny? I believe the joke is that if you add a cast that is unfunny and a director too that’s unfunny it will make the scripted end up being funny. Me personally I didn’t see the joke until I analyzed it a bit more and realized that it’s like a math problem. When your trying to add two negative’s you get a positive in the end and I think that’s the same problem here it will be so unfunny that it will actually be funny. In the cartoon it’s based off a office looking room and in that room theres 4 people, one just sitting at his desk and the other three are standing next to it. It looks like the guy sitting is going over the script.
